Comparing primary care to concierge core: Which is more costly?

Concierge medicine often carries higher monthly fees than direct primary care visits, despite the visits' length being relatively equal, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Here are eight points:

1. Throughout the United States, there are between 500 and 600 direct primary care practices, however there are between 5,000 and 5,500 concierge practices.

2. Concierge medicine average monthly fees are between $101 and more than $225. Direct primary care monthly fees are between $25 and $85.

3. The following is usually included in direct primary care visits:
●    24/7 support
●    Basic lab tests
●    Vaccinations
●    Scans
●    Generic drugs

4. A concierge medicine visit often includes:
●    24/7 support
●    A wellness plan and counseling
●    Advanced testing and screening

5. Both direct primary care and concierge physicians see between six patients and 10 patients each day.

6. Concierge visits' average length can range between 30 minutes and 60 minutes, with some visits being up to 90 minutes. Direct primary care visits are typically between 30 minutes and 60 minutes, with some only taking 15 minutes.

7. The average direct primary care patient is between 29 and 59-years-old and has income below $93,000.

8. Concierge medicine patients are typically over 59-years-old and have income exceeding $93,000.
