SurgCenter ASC joins Anthem's Medicare Advantage provider network
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana is adding Munster (Ind.) Specialty Surgery Center to its preferred list of care providers for two Medicare Advantage plans. Munster's providers will be considered in-network for Anthem's MediBlue Plus and MediBlue Dual Advantage plans beginning in June.
ICD-11 contains nearly 4x as many codes as ICD-10
The World Health Organization revealed the fully-electronic 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases. It contains 55,000 codes, compared to the 14,400 in ICD-10. Thirty-one countries played a role in field testing ICD-11.
Stark Law under the spotlight as CMS seeks to ease self-referral regulatory burden, MedPAC cracks down on PODs
Changes could be coming to Stark Law. CMS began seeking input on reducing the regulatory burden of Stark Law to allow for more care coordination between organizations. The June 2018 MedPAC report also addressed potential Stark Law changes, focused on tightening the language to prohibit physician self-referral associated with physician-owned distributorships.
Hoag Orthopedic Institute Surgery Center implements Carrum Health's bundled payment platform
Carrum Health added Orange County, Calif.-based Hoag Orthopedic Institute Surgery Center to its bundled payment program. Employers can use the platform to send their employees to Hoag for joint replacements and spine surgeries. The program offers care to the employees at a set cost.
Hunterdon Healthcare unveils ASC in former Bank of America space
Flemington, N.J.-based Hunterdon Healthcare held a ribbon cutting ceremony June 14 for its new ASC in Bridgewater, N.J. Hunterdon Healthcare contracted DMR Architects to transform a former Bank of America into medical office space. The 55,000-square-foot, three-story building now features medical offices for specialties such as breast surgery, occupational/physical therapy and urology on the second floor.
New system for outpatient total hip replacement launches
OrthoGrid Systems launched its new patent-protected HipGrid Nine System for outpatient total hip replacement. OrthoGrid's HipGrid Nine system is designed to integrate with C-arm systems at ASCs and hospitals.
Ex-Tenet executive claims kickback charges 'legally flawed'
A former Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare executive — who the U.S. Department of Justice alleged was involved in a $400 million kickback scheme — filed a motion calling his indictment "legally flawed." Tenet paid the government $514 million in October 2016 to resolve kickback allegations. However, Mr. Holland and a pair of former executives were charged separately.
