95% of Medicare ASCs meet quality reporting requirements
More than 95 percent of the Medicare-certified ASCs successfully met Medicare's ASC Quality Reporting Program requirements for the program's second full year. Those surgery centers will receive full annual payment updates for the 2016 calendar year.

One dead after couple attempts to rob a Las Vegas physician's office
A couple attempted to rob a Las Vegas physician's office. The woman and man tried to steal money and/or drugs when one of the office employees got a gun from his car and confronted the couple in the office parking lot. The employee fired on the female suspect, who died as a result.

House approves $1.1 trillion spending package
The House passed a $1.1 trillion spending package that will keep government open through September 2016. The House's decision marks the first major alteration to the Affordable Care Act. Click here to learn more about the bill.

Infection Prevention Technologies launches major update to website
To improve the quality and availability of information about the benefits of its family of ultraviolet light disinfection robots, Infection Prevention Technologies made a major update to its corporate website. The website has more content and better displays the technologies IPT's NextGen UV light disinfection robots offer including SmartDosage and Steri-Trak treatment documentation system.

Hillary Clinton says ACA discourages full-time employment
Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton said the Affordable Care Act is pushing companies to move toward a primarily part-time workforce. Ms. Clinton spoke at a town hall meeting in Iowa City. Ms. Clinton said, "Well that's why they're going to part-time. That and the Affordable Care Act. You know, we've got to change that because we have built in some unfortunate incentives that discourage full-time employment."

Kaiser Permanente to open medical school in Southern California
Kaiser Permanente plans to open a medical school in Southern California in 2019. Kaiser hopes to offer an education focused on integrated healthcare with its medical school.

Dr. Amit Majmudar was named Ohio's poet laureate
Ohio Governor John Kasich named Amit Majmudar, MD, a diagnostic and nuclear radiologist with Radiology Inc., in Dublin, Ohio, the state's poet laureate, a two-year honorary position. The physician writes poetry and has published two novels: Partitions in 2009 and The Abundance in 2011. Dr. Majmudar is working on a new poetry collection titled "Dothead" slated for March 2016 publication.
