USPI reopening surgery centers impacted by Hurricane Florence — 4 insights

Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International plans to reopen eight surgery centers in South Carolina Sept. 17.

Here's what you should know:

1. USPI closed its centers during Hurricane Florence. The centers are rescheduling cancelled cases.

2. Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare also had three hospitals in the area impacted by Hurricane Florence. They remained open during the storm, and none suffered material damage. They resumed normal operations over the weekend.

3. Tenet Executive Chairman and CEO Ron Rittenmeyer said, "We are incredibly proud and grateful for the dedication of our employees and their selfless efforts to care for patients at a time when many of them were facing uncertainty in their personal lives. Active preparation, rapid response and swift recovery are paramount to this organization, and I would also like to express my gratitude to our emergency response team for their diligence before, during and after the storm."

4. Mr. Rittenmeyer said Tenet incurred additional costs to ensure patient and employee safety during the storm. The expenses will be reflected in the company's third quarter report.
