Baltimore-based University of Maryland Shore Regional Health is seeking approval to swap Cambridge, Md.-based UM Shore Medical Center at Dorchester for a new medical campus with a freestanding medical facility, the Dorchester Star reports.
Here are six details:
1. University of Maryland Shore Regional Health requested a certificate of need exemption to build the 40,000-square-foot UM Shore Medical Center at Cambridge and 50,000-square-foot UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Cambridge about a mile from the current hospital.
2. Pending state approval and funding, the medical campus could open and acute care inpatient beds could be relocated to University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton (Md.) in mid-2021.
3. The proposed UM Shore Medical Pavilion at Cambridge will include an ASC with one operating room and one procedure room, as well as outpatient rehabilitation services, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and a community health education hub.
It will also provide outpatient services such as gastroenterology, general surgery, orthopedics, behavioral health, medical oncology, pediatrics and urology.
4. The proposed UM Shore Medical Center at Cambridge is a freestanding medical facility with 18 private emergency treatment rooms, three behavioral health rooms, 10 private short stay observation beds, diagnostic services, lab services and a helipad for air transport.
5. Information on the proposal will be shared during a public hearing July 31.
6. In May, the City of Cambridge and Dorchester County created an entity to purchase the existing hospital site, prepare it for development and negotiate its sale by 2021.
