Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus downsized plans for an addition to its main facility, the Baltimore Business Journal reports.
What you should know:
1. The health system originally planned a 13-story, $116 million patient care tower for the site. The hospital recently downsized the scope of the project to a 10-story, $65 million outpatient-only tower.
2. The tower will house primary and specialty care medical offices to offer an unspecified array of services. Additionally, it'll house a community health center in which providers will perform outreach services.
3. The health system is seeking state approval to add a freestanding outpatient surgery center to the tower. The center, if approved, would have three operating rooms and two procedure rooms. The health system will seek state permission for the project this winter.
UMMC CEO Mohan Suntha, MD, said, "The new outpatient tower will allow for growth and expansion and will serve as a visible symbol of our commitment to offer immediate and convenient access to national healthcare leaders in the west Baltimore community and the region."
