Shriners Hospitals for Children-Twin Cities eliminating inpatient care— 4 insights

Minneapolis-based Shriners Hospitals for Children — Twin Cities will switch to an outpatient-only model, eliminating all inpatient care by the end of year, Fox 9 reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Shriners will cut 35 full-time positions as a result of the change and will no longer be a full-service hospital.

2. The hospital is making the change to follow nationwide trends away from inpatient care.

3. Hospital Administrator Charles Lobeck said the health system would develop an outpatient clinic to provide pediatric, orthopedic, radiology and rehabilitation care.

4. If surgery is needed, Shriners surgeons will utilize a local children's hospital.
