Randi Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Zuckerberg Media, delivered a keynote presentation at Becker's ASC 26th Annual Meeting in Chicago on Oct. 25.
The evolution of video technology has seen several industries develop new strategies for communication, education and training purposes, and healthcare is no different.
"Many of our business use online webinars and video chats for our distributed workforce," Ms. Zuckerberg said. "This is truly the future of all of our businesses."
Telemedicine is an emerging trend in the U.S. healthcare industry can have significant benefits in terms of cost effectiveness treatments, physician education and training as well as improved patient care.
"Whether it's telemedicine where patients are chatting with physicians through an Alexa device or video chat or whether it's groups of doctors all learning together across the world at the same time, this is truly the future of communication," Ms. Zuckerberg said.
Ms. Zuckerberg, who developed the Facebook Live platform, highlighted the importance of having that creative space to think and develop new ideas.
She helped her brother, Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder and CEO of Facebook, form a digital marketing strategy in the company's infancy but it wasn't until 2016, when Ms. Zuckerberg officially launched her own innovation on the platform in Facebook Live.
"What was so incredible about that decade I spent in Silicon Valley [is] I truly learned that if we put ourselves in an environment — even if it's just for an hour every few months — where we can just take big risks and free ourselves from that fear of failure and judgement from other people, then every single one of us is an entrepreneur sitting on top of that 2 billion person idea."
After witnessing first-hand the goings on in the tech industry, Ms. Zuckerberg concluded her presentation by stressing the need to periodically "unplug" from our electronic devices.
"I truly think that this is going to be one of the biggest healthcare challenges of our time," Ms. Zuckerberg said. "The fact that we're now so plugged into our devices means that stress levels are higher, people are reacting more to what other people want and it's actually changing young peoples' brains in interesting ways."
