Mayo Clinic Health System will close its hospital and emergency department at its Springfield, Minn., and Lamberton, Minn., clinics on March 1, local CBS affiliate WCCO reports.
What you should know:
1. Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo is closing the clinics in response to low admission rates, a provider shortage and fears over losing accreditation. In 2019, the Springfield hospital saw a total of nine inpatients and 28 overnight patients.
2. Sixty employees will lose their jobs.
3. Mayo said another healthcare organization was interested in establishing outpatient clinical services in the former Springfield hospital.
