Maumee, Ohio-based St. Luke's Hospital will merge with Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care and then expand through a series of specialty centers, NBC affiliate 24 News reports.
What you should know:
1. The two entities plan to build a new oncology center once the merger closes.
2. They will follow that project with an orthopedic, neuro and spine center at a later date.
3. St. Luke's realized it wouldn't be able to sustain its growth without taking on a partner. Partnering with McLaren, which has the region's highest number of oncologists, seemed like the best fit, a board representative said.
