Headquartered in Great Neck, N.Y., Northwell Health acquired a majority stake in Melville (N.Y.) Surgery Center, according to libn.com.
Here are six points:
1. The multispecialty ambulatory surgery center offers services including spine, general surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, podiatry, urology, chiropractic, pain management as well as ear, nose and throat.
2. Sixty surgeons staff the center and care for nearly 7,000 patients.
3. Through the acquisition, Northwell will be part of a joint venture including 15 physician owners and Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America.
4. The 10,700-square-foot ASC houses four operating rooms, a procedure room, eight preoperative stations and 13 postoperative stations.
5. Northwell has joint ventured with various surgery centers throughout New York including SurgiCare of Manhattan, Endoscopy Center of Long Island in Garden City, Garden City SurgiCenter, South Shore Surgery Center in Bay Shore, Suffolk Surgery Center in Shirley and Digestive Health Center of Huntington.
6. The nonprofit heath system plans to open up to 20 new ASCs over the next few years.
