Morris Hospital plans $60M campus, surgery center transformation

Morris (Ill.) Hospital & Healthcare Centers plans to modernize its main campus and add two facilities over the next three years, according to The Free Press Newspapers.

Here's what you should know:

1. The $60 million project entails renovating more than 56,000 square feet.

2. It includes $3 million worth of renovations at Morris-based Deerpath Surgery Center, a joint venture between Morris Hospital and independent physicians.

3. Deerpath became a multispecialty ASC earlier this year, allowing the hospital to shift many ophthalmology and gastrointestinal procedures to the facility.

The conversion helped determine the amount of space the hospital would need in its future surgical department, according to Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers President and CEO Mark Steadham.

4. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board will consider the plan Dec. 4.

5. Other highlights of the project include adding a new emergency department and consolidating three Ottowa, Ill.-based offices into a new, expanded facility in 2020.
