Moody's: ASC Revenue Shows Growth, Inpatient Surgery Revenue Dips 0.22%

Despite the steady decline in Medicare reimbursement, since 2007 ambulatory surgery centers have been exhibiting low to mid-single digit growth in revenue, according to a report by Moody's Investors Service.

On the other hand, since 2007 inpatient surgery has shown a 0.22 annual decrease. This trend could be attributed to several factors including patients' reluctance to undergo any procedures deemed not urgently necessary.

The report predicts that large ASC companies, such as AmSurg and USPI, stand to benefit from this shift towards the outpatient setting.

ASCs are prepared to cater to growing demographic trends, but still face the challenges of increased hospital acquisitions and decreased reimbursement rates.
