KKR will have about 300 ASCs in its portfolio after Envision acquisition

KKR plans to acquire Nashville, Tenn.-based Envision Healthcare for around $9.9 billion, adding to the global investment firm's portfolio.

The company already has Covenant Surgical Partners in its portfolio. KKR invested in Covenant, the operator of 36 ASCs in 17 states, in 2017. Covenant's centers, like Envision's AmSurg centers, primarily focus on single-specialty facilities in gastroenterology or ophthalmology.

AmSurg operates 261 ASCs and one surgical hospital in 35 states. When KKR's investment is complete — likely during the fourth quarter of 2018 — the firm will have nearly 300 ASCs under its belt.

In the past year, KKR has also acquired PharMerica, PetVet Care Centers and Laser Clinics Australia.
