James P. Alexander, president and CEO of Howard Regional Health System in Kokomo, Ind., and Bryan Mills, president and CEO of Community Health Network, have announced a formal affiliation between the two organizations, according to a CHN release.
According to the release, the signing of the letter of intent is a proactive response to dramatic changes in the healthcare industry, driven by healthcare reform. According to Mr. Alexander, the affiliation of Howard Regional with CHN will provide the acute-care hospital with access to programs that an independent, stand-alone hospital could not possibly duplicate.
Under the affiliation with CHN, Howard will have access to enhanced group purchasing programs, lower-cost capital, health information and technology resources and enhancements to current evidence-based medicine.
The affiliation will affect a number of facilities affiliated with Howard Regional Health System, including an acute-care hospital, a number of physician services and an extensive ambulatory surgery center.
