Fate of Holland Hospital, Spectrum Health's outpatient medical office hangs in the balance — 4 points

On March 15, The Grand Haven (Mich.) Township Board of Trustees deliberated approving Holland (Mich.) Hospital and St. Joseph, Mich.-based Spectrum Health's plans for a joint outpatient medical building. After a 3.5 hour meeting, the board did not reach a decision on approving the center, according to mlive.

Here are four points:

1. Those in favor of the center argue the building would provide Grand Haven residents another option for outpatient care.

2. Opponents counter the Holland Hospital and Spectrum Health venture is not necessary as the North Ottawa Community Health System already offers residents such services.

3. If approved, the 120,000-square-foot facility would include clinics for outpatient procedures, scans and tests.

4. At the public hearing, lawyers, physicians, politicians and citizens all conveyed their opinions regarding the outpatient center. Most speakers argued against approving the center.
