Naser Rustom, MD, has reworked his proposal for an Orland Park, Ill., surgery center that would cater to the Islamic faith to exclude any references to Shariah, Islamic religious law, according to a Crain's Chicago Business report.
The initial proposal for the $5.5 million surgery center, which was designed to cater to the growing Muslim population in the Chicago area, received a preliminary denial by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board in May.
A second proposal, no longer including any reference to Shariah, was filed on July 12, but still intends for the center to offer areas for prayer and ritual washing. The new proposal also includes the addition of podiatry and OB/GYN.
