Ambulatory Surgical Center of Stevens Point to remain independent — Here's why

Ambulatory Surgical Center of Stevens Point (Wis.) plans to remain independent despite the wave of joint venture transactions sweeping the industry, according to ASC Focus.

What you should know:

1. The ASC has been independent since it opened in 2006.

2. Organizations have approached the ASC about affiliating or aligning on several occasions.

"We face a lot of pressure to enter into a partnership but are trying fiercely to remain independent," ASC Administrator Becky Ziegler-Otis told ASC Focus.

3. The ASC's physicians want to remain independent to maintain control over facility operations.

"They value how much input they have into the day-to-day operations. They decide how they want to spend their money. They help select staff and surgical supplies. They choose which implant vendors we work with. This control makes them happy," Ms. Ziegler-Otis said.
