Regent Surgical Health outlined some of the benefits of converting a hospital outpatient department to an ASC.
They are:
1. Increased efficiency. Converting an HOPD to an ASC moves cases to a lower cost setting, which can increase efficiency and improve payer cost sharing.
2. Staffing and supply savings. Because ASCs are more efficiently run than HOPDs, staff schedules can be more flexible and supply costs are lower.
3. Joint venture opportunities. HOPDs that convert to an ASC can send lower reimbursing cases to the ASC and save hospital operating rooms for higher acuity cases.
