Medical Device Recalls Increase 161% in Q1

Medical device recalls increased 161 percent in the first quarter of 2012 over the previous quarter, according to the first quarterly ExpertRECALL Index (pdf) of 2012.

 

The report noted that FDA enforcement reports documented 277 medical device recalls in the first quarter. While this figure is a significant increase over the fourth quarter of 2011, it's a 14 percent decrease in the number of recalls over the first quarter of 2011.

 

Of the documented recalls, 250 affected customers nationwide and 176 affected customers in the United States.
