The Federal Communications Commission has proposed to allocate part of the wireless spectrum for medical devices, according to an Engadget report and other industry reports.
The allocated space would be used for medical body-area networks, which are designed to transmit information between mobile medical devices in hospitals and homes.
If approved, the new rules would make the United States the first country in the world to allocate spectrum for the wireless MBAN devices.
Voting on the proposal takes place May 24.
