Boston Scientific to Acquire BridgePoint Medical

Boston Scientific Corp. has announced it has agreed to acquire BridgePoint Medical, according to a news release.

 

BridgePoint Medical, which is based in Minneapolis, is the developer of a catheter-based system to treat coronary chronic total occlusions. The CTO system is comprised of the CrossBoss CTO crossing catheter and the Stingray CTO re-entry system. It is designed to navigate occluded coronary arteries as a means of blood flow restoration, according to the release.

 

The system has received FDA clearance.

 

"The BridgePoint Medical CTO system is a compelling addition to our industry-leading suite of cardiology products," said Kevin Ballinger, president of the interventional cardiology division at Boston Scientific, in the release. "This acquisition strengthens our portfolio and demonstrates the Boston Scientific commitment to continued leadership in interventional cardiology."

 

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2012. Financial terms are not being disclosed.

 

Boston Scientific is headquartered in Natick, Mass.
