As of July 7, 23 states have reported West Nile virus infections in people, birds or mosquitoes in 2015, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Here are six key notes:
1. There have been 10 cases of West Nile virus disease in people reported to the CDC.
2. Two out of 10 were classified as neuroinvasive disease.
3. Eight out of 10 were classified as non-neuroinvasive disease.
4. West Nile virus infections in humans have been reported to CDC from Arizona, Delaware, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas.
5. Neuroinvasive disease cases in 2015 have been reported to from New Mexico and Texas.
6. Since CDC's update on July 7, West Nile virus activity is rising throughout California.
