Top 10 patient safety concerns

ECRI Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing patient care, released its annual list of the "Top 10 Patient Safety Concerns for Healthcare Organizations," according to Healthcare Finance News.

Here are the top 10 patient safety concerns:

1. Lack of support between health IT configurations and organization workflow

2. Patient identification errors

3. Insufficient management of behavioral health issues in non-behavioral health settings

4. Poor disinfection and cleaning of flexible endoscopes

5.  Inadequate test-result reporting and follow-up

6. Poor monitoring of respiratory depression among patients prescribed opioids

7. Medication errors related to pounds and kilograms

8. Unintentionally retained objects

9. Insufficient antimicrobial stewardship

10. Failing to support a culture of safety
