Medical errors related to injectable medications cost U.S. payors up to $5.1 billion in additional costs annually, according to a study in American Health & Drug Benefits.

Researchers used medical error data, hospital data and U.S. payor claims to calculate the number of adverse drug events associated with injectable medications and the resulting costs.
