Strong for Surgery, a Washington state initiative, has released free pre-surgical checklists to help physicians optimize patients for surgery, according to an Infection Control Today report.
The checklists address nutrition, blood sugar control, smoking cessation and medication use — factors that can be modified to reduce adverse events during surgery. The checklists include questions to assess patients' risks in these areas and interventions to reduce their risks.
