An American College of Physicians study analyzed the rising incidence of Staphylococcus Aureus Bacteremia, according to The Siasat Daily.
Researchers used a Denmark national registry to reveal the prevalence of staph infection in first-degree relatives.
Annals of Internal Medicine published the study.
Here are three observations:
1. The study showed a person is at greater risk of contracting a staph infection if his or her first-degree relative is hospitalized with staph infection.
2. Siblings are at the highest risk of contracting staph infection if their siblings have the infection.
3. The researchers did not pinpoint a cause, but said it is most likely not direct transmission.
