Patient Safety Tool: Hospital-Acquired VTE Prevention Guide

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality offers a free hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism prevention guide to help hospitals implement prevention strategies and improve patient safety.

"Preventing Hospital-Acquired Venous Thromboembolism: A Guide for Effective Quality Improvement" is based on quality improvement initiatives at University of California, San Diego Medical Center and Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta, and aims to help quality improvement leaders in other healthcare facilities prevent hospital-acquired venous thromboembolism. The guide has six chapters as well as several tools in the appendix:

The guide, which was published in 2008, was created by the Society of Hospital Medicine, Greg Maynard, MD, at UC San Diego Medical Center and Jason Stein, MD, at Emory University Hospitals.
