The American Gastroenterological Association, in partnership with the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, has developed a safe surgery checklist for ambulatory surgery centers that provide gastroenterology services.
The safe surgery checklist helps ensure certain measures or steps are taking prior to administration of anesthesia/sedation, prior to introduction of the endoscope and prior to the patient leaving the procedure room. The checklist also provides space for future quality improvement.
