The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers a free toolkit to help healthcare professionals validate central line-associated bloodstream infection data reported to CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network.
The NHSN Validation Guidance and Toolkit 2012 is designed for infection preventionists, quality professionals, state health department personnel (and/or their agents) and facilities to validate 2012 data on CLABSIs in intensive care units. The toolkit includes tools for reporting facilities to conduct an internal investigation of data quality as well as surveys and an external auditing approach for health departments or their agents to evaluate knowledge and use of surveillance methods.
CDC plans to issue guidance on validating other HAIs reported to NHSN in the future.
Download the NHSN Validation Guidance and Toolkit for use in your own facility.
