Patient Safety Expert Says Lack of Collaboration, Integration Prevent Improvements

A lack of collaboration, systems integration and willingness to change prevent improvements in patient safety, according to Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD, in a Wall Street Journal report.

Dr. Pronovost, medical director of Johns Hopkins University's Center for Innovation in Quality Patient Care in Baltimore, said partnerships between academic medicine and industry medicine, teamwork training, checklists and transparency may help increase patient safety and healthcare quality.
