A new Royal College of Nursing survey on whistleblowing shows an overwhelming majority of nurses are afraid to raise concerns about staffing levels and patient safety, according to an RCN news release.
The fear stems from the possibility of victimization, personal reprisals or a negative effect on their career if they were to report concerns to their employers.

The survey of more than 3,000 RCN members found more than 80 percent of nurses have raised concerns with their employers about staffing and safety, and in almost half of cases where nurses raised concerns, no action was taken.
