Higher nurse and physician communication ratings by patients are associated with fewer medical errors and greater patient satisfaction scores, according to a study (pdf) by HealthGrades.
HealthGrades studied patients' responses to communication-related questions on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. The results showed hospitals whose patients rated them in the bottom 10 percent for nursing communication had an average of 27 percent more overall medical errors than hospitals that were rated in the top 10 percent.
