The Hawaii Department of Health enhanced its vital records ordering and tracking service, called vitrec.ehawaii.gov.
Here are five takeaways:
1. The new features include providing requestors with information on supporting documents needed for birth or marriage record eligibility, as well as uploading copies of documentation.
2. Requestors can now pay cash for online order submissions.
3. Based on a Hawaii statute, vital records are restricted.
4. The new system launched in February, and has since decreased the average wait time for mail-delivery orders from 56 days to six days.
5. "We are the custodian of the records and it's our responsibility to make sure the records are available to requestors with privacy and security in mind," said Alvin T. Onaka, PhD, state registrar and chief of the Office of Health Status Monitoring.
