Software development company Kolkin has launched a new real-time patient list and hand-off tool, SOS for Patient Safety Initiative, with the goal of allowing physicians to eliminate miscommunication. Here are five things to know:
1. SOS was developed by Auron Priestley, MD, who is also a programmer, for use during general surgery residency training.
2. Daniel Caruso, MD, FACS, chairman of the department of surgery at Phoenix-based Maricopa Integrated Health System, said in a release that SOS is simple to use, quick and efficient.
3. SOS allows users to communicate securely through any web browser.
4. According to a release, SOS is a simple, decentralized software that can run in a hospital's private network without requiring a third-party cloud service.
5. SOS is free to download before July 31.
