A new study, published in the American Journal of Infection Control, examines patient receptiveness to attempts to increase engagement in preventing healthcare-associated infections.
Here are four things to know:
1. Researchers recruited patients from the surgical department. An empowerment tool was used that aimed at increasing awareness and engagement in HAI prevention.
2. At the baseline survey, just over half of the participants were highly willing to assist with infection control strategies.
3. After discharge, nearly half reported discussing a health concern with a staff member
4. Study authors conclude that patients would like to be more informed about HAIs and are willing to engage with staff members to further infection control.
