Unveiled during the 2012 Patient Safety Awareness Week, the Certified Professional in Patient Safety credential has hit a five-year milestone.
Here are five things to know:
1. More than 1,600 health professionals have received the certification.
2. Certified professionals, from physicians to quality and risk managers, come from all 50 states and 12 countries.
3. The credential came about with the intent of creating patient safety competency standards.
4. Additionally, the credential serves to boost individuals' professional level for training in safety science, human factors engineering and the practice of safe care.
5. The Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety oversees the credentialing process.
