Anna Schuchat, MD, CDC's deputy director, said Zika is "a bit scarier" than the CDC initially predicted during a White House press briefing, according to The Hill.
Here are five notes:
1. Dr. Schuchat was making a case for additional Zika funding.
2. The virus is linked to more pregnancy complications, such as premature births.
3. Zika is also linked to microephaly, a birth defect causing developmental problems.
4. White House officials are urging Republicans in Congress to approve $1.9 billion in emergency funding for the virus.
5. Thus far, Republicans have denied the push for new funds.
