BlackBerry is considering developing a bacteria-free smartphone for healthcare facilities, according to a Bloomberg Business report.

Here are four quick facts:

 

1. BlackBerry is partnering with ThoughtWire and Cisco Systems to develop software for the healthcare industry.

 

2. The company recently unveiled a portable messaging and alert system it will provide to healthcare professionals in a Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital unit in Canada.

 

3. The hospital's chief medical information officer noted that while healthcare providers are expected to wipe down their phones with alcohol before entering and exiting a patient's room, it was hard to tell how effective this process is.

 

4. BlackBerry has not yet started developing the bacteria-free smartphone.
