Adenosine triphosphate values may be the better method of determining endoscope cleanliness, compared to other indicators, according to a study published in the American Journal of Infection Control.
For the study, researchers assessed and compared the effectiveness of adenosine triphosphate, microbiological load and protein measurements on endoscope surfaces and suction/accessory channels. The researchers found that ATP values best reflected microbiological colony counts.
