In an Integrated Healthcare Strategies survey, 43 percent of responding organizations offered their medical director a performance bonus.
The survey found medical directors for OBGYN received the highest bonus (21.9 percent), followed by hospitality (20 percent), orthopedics (20 percent), pediatrics (20 percent), trauma surgery (20 percent), cardiology (20 percent), emergency medicine (15.7 percent) and rehabilitation (15.4 percent).
Sullivan, Cotter and Associates issued a report titled "Physician Compensation and Productivity Survey Report, 2015 Based on 2014 Data," which detailed medical directors' median quality incentive payments for programs.
Medical directors in surgical care had a median quality incentive of ($16,961), followed by hospital-based care ($15,596), medical care ($13,495) and specialty care ($11,579).
