5 things to know about the FDA devising a precision medicine platform

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it is creating a software platform for precision medicine, according to Healthcare IT News.

Here are five facts:

1. FDA's Office of Health Informatics is working with DNAnexus to create the cloud-based software.

2. The software will enable the sharing of genomic information.

3. The software, named precisionFDA, can evaluate bioinformatics workflows and crowd source reference data sets.

4. The software provides an opportunity for developers, researchers and others to share and cross-validate test results against reference materials.

5. The precisionFDA is set to open in December 2015. Users will be able to access independent work areas for software code or data that can be shared or kept private.
