An ASC administrator is integral to a quality assurance performance improvement program, according to a Lakewood, Colo.-based Pinnacle III blog.
Pinnacle III shared five key ways ASC administrators can be involved in their center's QAPI program on their blog:
1. Learn the requirements. If an ASC is accredited it must adhere to the accreditation body's standards. Additionally, if an ASC provides care to Medicare or Medicaid patients, the center must meet CMS' QAPI requirements.
2. Choose a program manager. ASC administrators should choose a staff member with knowledge of standards and a passion for improving care to be in charge of the QAPI program. Administrative skills such as using databases and creating spreadsheets are also important.
3. Create oversight. Developing a process for establishing oversight of the QAPI program is essential for ASC administrators. Following an organizational chart can help administrators keep track of who is accountable for the program.
4. Keep involved. Administrators should stay involved with the QAPI program, even when it's doing well. QAPI programs are most successful when administrators stay involved.
5. Stay informed about changes. Administrators should keep current with industry changes impacting ASC quality improvement efforts. The changes should then be incorporated into the QAPI program.
