National Time Out Day, an annual awareness campaign, is scheduled for June 10.
Here are four things to know about the campaign:
1. It was created by Association of periOperative Registered Nurses and is supported by The Joint Commission.
2. It aims to increase awareness of safe practices that lead to optimal outcomes for patients.
3. The time out is a powerful tool that supports a culture of safety. It helps avoid wrong site, wrong procedure and wrong person surgeries.
4. AORN and The Joint Commission urge healthcare organizations to conduct a time out for every patient, every time. They have a number of resources available to aid organizations in this effort.
