4 notes on the impact of medical tourism on Thailand's MERS outbreaks

As Thailand sees an average of 1.4 million medical tourists a year, medical tourism could he aiding the country in their efforts to contain the spread of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, according to a Reuters report.

Here are four key notes:

1. The first case of MERS in Thailand was reported in a 75-year-old man last Thursday, June 18.

2. Authorities said 176 people were exposed to the MERS patient, but there were no new cases as of today, reports Reuters.

3. Tourism Minister Vachira Pengchan told Reuters, "It is the very fact that we are a travel and medical hub that works in our favor and that allows us to be prepared."

4. An advisor to Thailand's Disease Control Department told Reuters that he investigated the hospital's handling of the MERS case, and found it "flawless."
