Nurses working in ASCs wear many hats, but one of the most prominent is quality improvement, according to an article in American Nurse Today, the journal of the American Nurses Association.
Three ways ASC nurses can improve quality:
1. Creating a quality program. Conducting quality assessments and improvement of various aspects of ASC quality is one way nurses can spearhead quality improvements at an ASC.
2. Educating others. Leading sessions on proper hand-washing practices and other infection control topics allows nurses to share their expertise with other ASC staff.
3. Splitting time between clinical and administrative roles. ASC nurses are often responsible for patient recovery and admissions but can also make an impact through spending time on compliance duties.
