AmSurg announced that 10 of its centers are voluntarily participating in the National Patient Safety Program funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
The 12-month patient safety collaboration is funded for ambulatory surgery centers and hospital outpatient departments to improve quality of care. Kathy Wilson, vice president of quality for AmSurg, serves as consortium lead for the company's centers.
The program includes a series of educational offerings and tools such as an advanced safety checklist, new communication techniques for the surgical team, evidence-based team participation methods and safety culture assessments. The program is expected to improve patient safety, enhance teamwork, improve patient satisfaction and reduce complications.
The centers collect outcomes data and share it with the program. The program has the potential to extend to other AmSurg centers.
