Georgia has been named the worst state for healthcare by Forbes due to its failure to meet several key metrics spanning categories of healthcare access, healthcare outcomes, healthcare cost and quality of hospital care.
Georgia has the second-highest percentage of residents (15.5%) who chose not to see a doctor at some point in the past 12 months due to cost.
It also has the third-highest percentage of residents who lack health insurance coverage (12.63%), fifth-highest kidney disease mortality rate, eighth-highest stroke mortality rate and the eighth-highest average deductible for residents with single health insurance coverage through an employer.
Georgia only has about 12.33 primary care physicians available per every 10,000 residents, and the average annual premium for employees with single coverage through employer-provided health insurance is $1,714.
