Young residents going into medicine in 2023 see a healthy work-life balance as the most important factor in choosing their first residency opportunity, according to Medscape's 2023 "Resident Salary & Debt Report," published Sept. 13.
The most important factors for physicians seeking their first residency:

4. Potential for career advancement: 26 percent

7. Patient population: 13 percent
8. Prestige of the organization/practice: 11 percent
