Here are three legislative updates that could affect surgery centers:
A bill introduced in Indianapolis could require healthcare providers to prove the need for new developments in order to win state approval. Healthcare providers would need a certificate of need to build an outpatient surgery center, hospital or other facility costing at least $10 million.
A Georgia Senate study committee is drafting legislation that would significantly weaken the state's certificate of need laws. The Senate's proposal would make certain types of facilities exempt from the CON process.
U.S. House Representative Daniel Lipinski, D-Ill., introduced a bill called the "Hospital Price Transparency and Disclosure Act of 2018" July 25. The bill would require all hospitals and ASCs to disclose charges of the top 100 inpatient and outpatient procedures for both insured and uninsured patients.
